Who We Are

We are mentors.

Caring Men & Caring Women, Inc. (CMCW) believes mentoring is the key to unlocking the true potential of young people. We offer boys and girls one-on-one mentoring from a positive mentor. Our goal is to connect with children early enough in their school life to form a strong mentoring bond and help improve academic performance of our mentees. CMCW provides safe forums where boys and girls are able to discuss the choices they are faced at this critical window of time in their lives.

Why We Mentor

“Structure” is missing in their lives.

So many children we meet in schools tell us they are angry, sad or confused. We believe this because they are growing up with inconsistent parenting or trauma in their life. Our research tells us these boys and girls will struggle to succeed in school and have greater difficulties forming lasting relationships as they grow older if we don’t help them.

How We Succeed

We succeed via trust and accountability.

We first build trust by listening to them, showing interest in their school life and modeling positive behaviors. We spend time getting to know their likes and dislikes. We are honest and direct when talking about sensitive subjects such as drugs, sex and smoking.

CMCW mentors show accountability to their mentee by being there when the mentee and the program needs them. We clearly express our desired goals and expectations for them, such as good grades and showing respect. We help them make healthy choices while encouraging them to make their own decisions.

Why Be a Mentor

To assist young people in receiving support, guidance and love.
To improve the academic performance of our mentees.
To improve the interpersonal relationship between our young men and women and their peers, their teachers, their family members and other adults in their lives.
To reduce the dropout rate of mentees.
To reduce juvenile delinquency and involvement in gangs.
To use sports as a vehicle to teach young men and women life skills such as sportsmanship, teamwork, leadership and discipline.
